Hi Amber, sorry to hear about your bad haircut. I don't have any ideas on how to handle the awful short bangs. I guess this was about 2 weeks ago now so they may have grown out a bit in that time... from 1/2" to 3/4" ?

Next time you visit a salon ask the cutter to verify what she's doing before she cuts. Tell her you won't pay her if she cuts it too short (that ought to get her attention).

Good luck!

As Dave said, your bangs have probably grown some by now and they will continue to grow. But in the mean time what to do?

Some good advice to someone else with a haircut they were unhappy with that I read in another post somewhere else on this board that I really liked was to "pretend, pretend, pretend this is how you wanted your hair" or something like that.

For now, try different ways of styling. While your bangs are short, put some hair gel on them and sort of separate/spike them down. Once they get a little longer try a wide headband to get them out of the way occassionally. The last suggestion I have is to go to another hairstylist for some styling tips/suggestions - making it clear you're not there for a cut.

Two weeks have already gone by, you're almost through the 3 week mark and 4 weeks of growth is not that far away.

How are you doing Amber? Have you done anything to your hair since then? Have you bought any styling products or accessories to help you?

Have you done anything to tell the stylist or salon that you didn't like it? Did you pay the first time?

Did you ask for bangs? When they were cut did she cut them straight across or did she lift them in sections and snip them? Did she tell you what she was doing during any of the cut?

What exactly was the cut you wanted and how different is it from that style? Pretend I'm the stylist and tell me what you told her about how you wanted it cut. Were you using a magazine picture or anything like that? If yes did the girl in the picture have short bangs?

Did your stylist say anything to you like, "Since your face is _____ shape I'm going to cut it this way" Or "Since you part it this way I'm going to cut it this way?" Was there anything like that?

I know you are feeling bad about it and I hope it gets better. I hope we can help you and others to not have this happen again.

Personally I don't see why a stylist would cut anyone's bangs above their eyebrows without being told to do it. If they are shorter than that. Even if it were in style at the moment she should have told you. I can see a stylist messing up and cutting a bit too much off the back but with bangs you can see reference points on the face to line them up with.

Anyway, hugs to you and stick around, we'll get you through it.
