Hello all,
My problem is that my hair is very damaged I think. First of all Im a guy with fine/thin hair. My hair is very very difficult to manage and has become very dry. My problem is that whenever i wash my hair its, its even harder to do anything with it because it becomes ridiculously limp and flat. My question is what if anything can I do to improve my hair and make it healthier, thicker, and easier to manage?
THanks

Go to the place where you get your hair cut, ask your barber/stylist if they fix up your hair for you. They sould know what to do, thier hair professionals .
1. Hard Brush 2. Any desired pomade 3. Any wave or durag 4. The courage to brush your hair alot. ------------------------------------------------ = Waves

How long is your hair? How often do you wash it?
Here are some of the things that can cause dryness: - too frequent shampooing - not conditioning after shampooing - using harsh shampoo - blowdrying - not using leave-in conditioner
One of the things that can help with dry hair is to reduce the frequency of washing. For example, if you wash daily you could switch to washing every other day. Your scalp might itch for a little while until it becomes used to being washed less. On days you don't wash your hair you would just wear a shower cap. Do you condition your hair after you wash it? You should, especially if you have dry hair. In fact, a lot of people wet and condition their hair even on days they don't wash it. A good conditioner will make all the difference. Another thing to look at is the products you are using. Are you using a good quality shampoo? Cheap shampoo or harsh dandruff shampoo can dry out the hair. There are a lot of quality products out there. The pricy salon lines cost a lot but they are usually worth it. I like Paul Mitchell but any salon products will be very good. At the grocery store the best widely available shampoo and conditioner line is 'Aussie'. This is what I use and I am very happy with the results. It definitely does not dry out the hair.
Speaking of drying out the hair, the way you dry your hair can cause dryness. Blowdrying is *bad* for hair, period. If you hair is damaged I suggest you avoid the blowdryer completely. Just cover your wet hair with a small towel for a few minutes after your shower. Then take it off and put a fresh towel on your shoulders. Natural drying will really improve the condition of your hair.
Another way to help with dry hair and get manageability too is to use a leave-in conditioner. This is a hair product that goes in the hair just before you style it. There are a number of leave-in conditioners out there. Two I use are Infusium 23, which is a very light conditioner (might be too light for you), and Paul Mitchell 'The Conditioner'. This is great but it is a 'salon' product so it is expensive.
I suggest you change one thing at a time and see if it helps your hair. For example, start conditioning if you don't already do so. Then move on to the next thing. This may seem like a lot of fussing over your hair but it really doesn't take much time at all. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Gollan is right. You should change your washing habits and shampoo. If you have the cash buy those salons brands. If you are on a budget, stick to baby shampoo so that it wont dry out your hair, and use a leave in conditioner. Olive oil or jojoba oil is also great as a conditioner. Apply it to you hair when wet, and just comb through with a wide tooth comb.
