Hi everyone.... I'm trying to grow out my hair, I had long hair when I was little, but for the last 5 years I've kept it short (above chin). The funny thing is that I'm actually growing it out for a Halloween costume (yes I know its a bit odd, but I just have to do it :) ) Anyways, my hair finally reached shoulder length and I despartley need to do something to keep myself from cutting it off. Its not that I don't like long hair, I actually love the way it looks, but I always end up pulling it back into a pony tail and call it a day. I think I've had my hair in a ponytail for the last three weeks. Sad I know, but I just don't knwo what else to do.

I was thinking about getting layers cut in it. Just thoguht I'd see if anyone has any ideas. I need somethign thats easy to take care of. I'm currently going to grad school, opening my own business, and restoring a 150 year old uilding so time is very importnat. I realize I'm asking for the sun, but just thought that maybe someone would have an idea. The funkier the better. Thanks for anything you can tell me....

Yep - that's the sun alright! You are busy and hair is not something that you have time for...
So after Halloween...what are going to do? Will you keep growing?
Layers look great in long, med thick (not too thick). But will require styling time. I have longish hair - about 4" past my shoulders with layers that start just past my chin. May hair spends LOTS of time in a ponytail simply becasue, layers or not - it's in the way. So if what you do during the day requires that your hair be out of the way, the layers will be in the way just the same. When I went to grad school I had to have mine out of the way as it is hard to bend over a drafting table or build scale models with hair in the way(ever gotten super glue in your hair before?)

POnytails can be pretty elegant. There are a lot of really beautiful cips and holders out now.

Good luck!

I have shoulder length hair that is fairly straight (bit wavy at ends).. and it was sooooo much more difficult to maintain layers when i had them.. i don't recommend getting layers if you want to make it easy to manage because layers don't normally look 'neat' if you don't blow dry them and style them.. and that needs time and energy which you don't have so I recommend just keeping it all same length.. if you want to add some texture you can get layers in the front (but none in the back). That's what I have right now and seems to take less amount of time..

If you decide to go w/ layers and then change your mind it's soo much more difficult to get everything same length again.. whatever you choose.. Good luck!

im getting layers in my hair. its just below bra strap level. i wouldnt reccomend layers in your hair. since its shorter it will probably make it even more difficult to deal with. ive been growing my hair out for three years and i ALWAYS wear it in a ponytail.

Hi Jenn-Jenn,

How about braiding your ponytail? Or pigtails? Or braided pigtails? And you could wrap the pigtails into mini-buns.

Hopefully, a few helpful ideas... let us know what you try.

I agree with everyone, stay away from layers. Deal with the frustration instead of taking it out on your hair. Daves suggestions are great if it´s variation you need.

Must be some Halloween party you´re looking forward to!
