Hey everybody... now that the heat of summer has arrived... what is everyone's favorite way of wearing their long hair to "beat the heat?" Here in the heat and humidity of Florida, wearing your hair up would seem to be mandatory (at least for me it is, with a single braid down my back)... but lots of girls and women wear their hair loose. Probably because they (and everyone) is merely going from one air-conditioned environ to another. So, how about you all?

I was hoping that someone would ask this because I would like to get some new ideas. I've been wearing a braid coiled in "hair slide" (not the bun holder) the past few days. Also, does anyone have ideas for hairstyles that are compatible with summer hats (as opposed to caps)? Thanks. ------------- |

Unfortunately I won't be too much help with this one. I have 3 styles for my hair. Well maybe more than that but I'll explain. 1 - Down: I wear my hair down and combed or brushed. Down and uncombed (at home). Down and wet to air dry at home. 2 - Ponytail: I usually wear my hair in a low ponytail when I leave the house. I have also left with my hair in a tail that was still wet or damp from washing. 3 - My sleep tail: As seen in my picture I have my hair in a low tail with 2 elastics on the length that were slid down from the nape carefully. Those are my 3 styles. I have only attempted braids on my hair so far a few times and haven't worn them outside so they don't count yet. Those are my styles for whatever weather. I've been doing them for about 6 years except for the sleep tail which was added this March. Someday I'll add some more. My current favorite is a ponytail and with it in front of me over my shoulder. Sometimes I put it there and sometimes it does it on it's own. :) -------------

I agree that wearing hair down and loose in the summer can be hot. Hair is a good insulator! I've been wearing my hair in a ponytail tail quite often but for being really cool nothing beats a bun - a Bee Butt bun. I wear my BB bun on the hotest days because it keeps the hair off my neck. In the last week I've been experimenting with braiding my ponytail. This has a lot of potential. One other style I was wearing in the spring is a half-tail. This hybrid of loose+ponytail puts less hair on your neck. ------------- |

I donīt understand how anyone can wear it down in the heat. Iīm hoping for a moderately warm summer, and so far, Iīve been lucky. If I need a sunhat, a braid or two is all there is, really, but if not, Iīll just make a slightly higher bun than usual, and twist it a bit, it looks kind of like one of those french updos, we call them 'pigs back'. Then I secure with a single hairstick. I actually wore it loose on midsummers eve, for the first time in ages, and it felt quite good! ------------- The more you complain, the longer God lets you live. |

I usualy wear my hair down on the first day when its washed...then in a ponytail or braid the second day. If I dont wash it for a couple days I keep it in a bun or a braid or a squiggy (half coiled up the rest pined to the back of my head...like a half french twist...i just call them squiggies.). ------------- |

I do the same thing that Erinlynn does. Down to dry after washing and then up the next day in a bun, braid, twist, whatever to get the hair off my neck. ------------- There was a little girl, who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. i spend most of my summertime at the jersey shore. i like to wear my hair down at all times. its only BSL so it's not too bad. if i used a sunscreen thats oily (usually i dont but sometimes thats all there is) i'll wear it up, because otherwise my hair will stick to my skin and feel nasty. but either way im unhappy with my hair there. at the shore the moisture in the air makes my hair feel sticky 24/7. especially if i wash it while we're there. it doesnt feel like it dries all the way. ------------- BSL/Blonde/Chemically Treated (abused) 1b/cMii I swear by Redken Extreme and Shea Butter. |

braids and buns. Most days I wear a messy twisted bun with a hairfork; for swimming and active outdoor stuff, a single braid threaded through the baseball cap. When I have to dress up, it's a figure 8 with MeiFa's. Cheers - Gren ------------- 1bCiii between tailbone and classic (43.5inches) |

After my hair's once-weekly cleaning, it dries indoors in the A/C. Spending any amount of time outdoors (here in lovely humid Florida) makes straight go frizzy. It calms down again after finding A/C'ed shelter. I wouldn't even consider letting my wet hair dry outdoors here. ------------- |

Hmm, I let my hair dry outside here in Florida. It sure drys faster than up north...but yes, it does get a wee bit frizzier even for a person with straight hair. ------------- |
