Hi, I have hair which is BSL. I have been growing it for almost 2 years and am absolutely in love with it. However at work yesterday one girl mentioned that she hates her hair because if she grows it past her shoulders the hair turns into ringlets. This, of course, started me thinking on how much I would love to have ringlets in my hair. Has anyone managed to put ringlets in their hair without damaging it? I don't like curling my hair, and my younger sister is a celtic dancer and puts rags in her hair. She said that she gets lots of broken hairs though. |

You can try solar powered curlers, which are covered in fabric and do no damage to hair... I wish I could have the choice- the happy medium of having ringlets instead of either a 'fro or stick straight hair ...=/ Goood Luck! ------------- **Starving Actor** --Will Work For Peanuts! |

I've curled my hair into ringlets using foam rollers, they're comfortable and easy plus they dont damage my hair, hope that helps. ------------- |

I used to use those long foam covered doddle things. My brothers said I looked like "Medusa" and called me worm head. Ringlets have to be wrapped up again for the next day. You have to carefully comb each one and no brushing. I used a little setting lotion while my hair was wet. ------------- |

Hmm... so... you put them in the sun for awhile and they heat up, and are then ready to put into your hair? Curious... I guess it could work in certain circumstances (such as, the sun is shining, and will shine for a certain amount of time, just before you plan to use them...). Have you successfully used these? ------------- |

yes, I have successfully used them. However, hair must go around the curlers BEFORE they're exposed to the sun. the heat is less than the average curler, but the solar powered curlers are much tighter, and don't need as much heating power. Also, the sun doesn't have to be brazenly shining to use them. They're just as effective as a TI solar powered calculator on a cloudy day :) ------------- **Starving Actor** --Will Work For Peanuts! |

Ive used foam rollers and Ive used sponge curlers. The foam ones are better on the hair...I think...but the spongeies make better curls. With either one I have to put them in before bed and sleep on them...works best if your hair is just barely damp...you know where it feels dry but kindof cool so its still got moisture in it. I'm just reporting back on my ringlets. I went to Wal-Mart in search of the solar curlers, I saw them but I was afraid that they wouldn't be long enough so I decided that I would check out my alternatives. I walked across the street to Zellers and found a product I have already called in love with. They are called spoodles and are sort of like flexible rods, but what is neat about them is that you can attatch them together so that they can be long for longer hair. I didn't do that though, and I find that they worked well on my hair length. They claim that the spoodles will adhere to themselves so they stay on your head easily. I was afraid they would come off while I sleep, so I kind of tucked them underneath and I found them to be secure. Of course the back of my head was hard to do, next time I think I'll get help and see if it turns out even better. I'll take pictures next time I use them so I can show them off. |
