Hello all: Does anyone know if this product is good for hair? It is called Biosilk Silk therapy.. kind of looks like a hair serum. Here is a link to the information on this product: Cyclomethicone (Ciclometicona), Dimethicone (Dimethicona), SD alcohol 40B, Panthenol, Ethyle Ester of Hydrolyzed Silk, Octyl Methoxycinnamate, Fragrance, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben and Propylparaben. (Phew!!!!!) PLease let me know soon because it was really expensive and if it is going to damage my hair i'll go return it... and also does anyone have any suggestions for a good serum if this one is no good??? Thanks!!! ME. |

Well, Iīm no chemist and donīt know all this stuff, but I can say that the first two are silicones, and it seems folks are divided about those. I donīt much like them, they seem to dry my hair after weeks of use, and the ones I know that like them keep their hair shorter (and donīt need to think ahead). The parabens and benzoate are preservatives that keep the stuff from going bad, and alcohol are used that way to, so my guess it the ethanol is also a preservative. The Octyl Methoxycinnamate could be a thickening agent. Panthenol is, I believe, a form of B-vitamine that binds moisture. Silk proteins are used to bind moisture as well. Basically, itīs a silicone product and if I were you Iīd use it for some special occasion (it canīt harm your hair to use it once or twice), but not on a regular basis. It would be interesting to know how it worked out, and what you think about the product. |

It doesn't sound much different in composition than Frizz Ease.. except this one has much more gunk added. I agree with Viktoria that this shouldn't be used too often, especially if your hair is fine or thin. "Cone" ingredients coat the hair like plastic and some hair likes it, some doesn't. Silk proteins are supposed to soften hair, but sometimes they react badly with oils or other hair products. You could probably get the same serum effects with a silicone-based leave-in conditioner. (Read the labels when you're shopping: if it ends in "cone" or "conol", it's silicone-based. I just bought a small lot of it from eBay, I was looking for something to protect my hair against heat damage because I also just purchased a Bion. Personally, I like it. It does quite a bit to help tame my unruly hair :) However, you really don't want to use it every day, or else you might end up with a build up. I usually keep it to 2 - 3 times a week :) Stef ------------- **Starving Actor** --Will Work For Peanuts! |

Okay! Just got it today! It definitely adds smoothness to hair - the texture is very slick without being oily. It reminds me a lot of...Astroglide. (Perish the thought.) I love the way it smells. It's some sort of plant or herb essence that I can't identify immediately, but it's fairly unique. On freshly shampooed hair, it should definitely add a fresh smell. I agree with the young lady above me that it's not something you'd want to use daily. (At least, I wouldn't.) I'm pretty sure that any product would build up and cause problems with daily use, so use moderately and methinks you should be fine. Hi Sunset, Products that are heavily based on silicones, such as this "Biosilk Silk therapy" will initially appear to be wonderful, since they will lock in the existing moisture. With repeated use over time, however, these types of products succeed in locking out moisture, making it difficult to re-hydrate your hair, thus resulting in dry, brittle hair that easily tangles and gets damaged. I would avoid using this product altogether -- or use it only once in a while (for "special" occasions), and use a clarifying shampoo at the following wash followed by a deep conditioner. ------------- |

Thanks all for your replies.. i ended up returning it and purchased Artec Textureline product called "Frizz repair serum" or something along those lines.. I used it in the past and it worked well for my hair.. I don't use this stuff everyday.. only when i'm having those 'Bad hair' days.. :) THanks again! ME. |
