Hey all! From reading on this board, I got some hot oil treatment (St. Ives brand, lol it was the cheapest!) and i used it and my hair seems to really like it! Its very smooth and shiny. One thing tho, I've read that hair cannot be "moisturized" because it is not "living" meaning like its just cells like your finger nails when you cut them off. But hair can get brittle, and that must mean that it can get dry. Hmm Im not sure. ------------- My avatar pic is Eowyn, the White Lady of Rohan. I *wish* I had hair like her's lol!! Hmm, my hair likes it, but now my scalp is like itchy and sore feeling. Hmm...my scalp does tend to get dry. No, you''re the only Eowyn on this board. There is an Eowyn on two other boards (and they are the same Eowyn) I just thought it was funny how small a world it is when you have long hair, or are growing superlong hair. Accolady, PurpleBubba, eKatherine, TapDancer, etc... and I.. we are all crossovers! lol :) ... anyhoo I hope I won''t confuse the Eowyns! Anais |

I never found the commercial hot oil products to be too great. For one, there is not really enough in one package for all my hair. Two, it needs to be shampooed out and that extra shampoo justs seems more drying. I am not sure if these products contain silicone which I think causes problems for my scalp. Better yet, go to a Natual Foods store and buy a small bottle of jojoba oil. It might seem expensive but per use it really is much more ecomonical that the hot oil tubes. I use it after I wash my hair. I just condition as usual and put about five drops on my hands and smooth that through my wet hair ends. It can also be used on dry hair before brushing. Because you only need a few drops per use, a small bottle of jojoba oil goes a long way. ------------- |

Suers, thank you for the info, so that jojobia oil sounds the best. I shall have to seek some of that out and try it. Hi Eowyn/Laura, Although the hair strands are not directly supported by blood flow (beyond the roots), hair can retain moisture. Hair devoid of most or all moisture is brittle; hair which has been infused with moisture (water) and then protected with an ultra-thin coating of oil feels soft and is easier to comb/brush, and is less prone to tangling. So, naturally, I concur with Suers on the value and use of jojoba oil. ------------- |
