Hello!
I was just wondering if the suave brands tend to be good with people's hair. I of course like them cause they are less expensive than most, do they seem to be kind to hair tho? Have you had success with it? Your comments are much appreciated thanks!

Hi Eowyn!

The shampoo? No way I'd use it again.. caused scalp overproduction of oil.. too harsh.

Their new Professionals Line conditioners? I LOVE IT. Suave BioBasics Conditioner contains a water soluble coating agent called Dimethiconol.. very flexible compared to the non-water-soluble dimethicone. the dimethiconol makes my hair soft...

that is, IF your hair likes cones.

Anais

ETA: the word "conditioner"

I use Suave, sometimes dove. There was a lab test done for the pHs of different shampoos and conditioners, and a cosmetologist let me in on the secret. Suave and professional products from salons have the closest ph to human hair. Which means they''re the most gentle. I like it, i would just say stay away from the citrus ones, all citrus is drying.

Also a lot of Cheap shampoos have ingrediants that you should stay away from at all cost.

My bottle of Suave Basalm and protien shampoo has only been used 5 times and I bought it a year ago, but that was back when I was bald.

The ingrediants that are bad are

Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate
Ammonium Laureth Sulfate
Ammonium Choloride
Citric Acid

I have seen other Suave bottles and they are no better.

Ohh!!! Eowyn I just thought I'd point out that the Suave Naturals line of Conditioners doesn't have any silicones (cone-free = usually great for fine hair)

Thanks Anais!
Its funny, Im learning it seems theres things to stay away from in shampoos, the laurly sulfates, and the "cones" if they are bad for your particular hair type. See Im learning!

Hey AnaisSatin. about the silicones..it seems like you know about them.
Just an observation, maybe you can make more out of it:
I have fine hair and silicones make my hair horribly dry, frizzy and a mess. My mom & sister have coarse hair and it works pretty good on them.
Ist here a correlation? do you think it's better for people with coarse hair?

Hi Rosebud,

My own observation (medium fine hair) is that silicones in S&C are bad for me... makes it dry, brittle, crispy, tangly, easily broken and lots of splits. It's been more than 7 years since I last used that nasty stuff on my hair.

I have heard from a number of others who have coarse hair that theirs is not adversely affected by the -cones. I can't explain how it works for them, but it generally seems to be the case.

Dave, a question for you: Could you tell me the names of several or even 1-2 conditioners that do not have silicones and have worked well on your hair?

My hair is also fine and I am only in my first year of cone-avoidance so I could really use some recommendations. I love my jojoba shampoo and I love oiling with jojoba oil as well. I have one conditioner that is cone-free, but I would like to be able to rotate products.
TIA,
strawberryfine

Aubrey Organics is -cone free. The Biolage conditioning balm, too (as well as I can tell). I have been alternating EP Deep conditioning which does have one -cone but it is way down the list. The key is how high (on the list of ingredients ) is the -cone? Since the ingredients must be listed in the order of most-used to least-used, those conditioners with -cones near the top have a lot of silicone. (Well, I'm sure you knew that already... it's getting late and I'm starting to ramble).

HTH

I just looked at my bottle of Aussie 3-Minute Miracle. It appears to be 'cone free. It's cheap, smells great, and a little blob goes a long way. :-)

My user name is WAY too long. Just call me Juliana. :-)

Juliana, (whew, I can spell that-LOL- and its very pretty), I will check out the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle; thanks for the tip!

Dave, I will also check out the Aubrey Organics line; thank you!

Oh, and even though I did know that ingredients are listed in descending amounts, for some reason I never thought to look at THAT when looking at conditioner ingredients. Duh; my bad. LOL

Thanks!
