Just a random survey...describe your favorite updo. Maybe it's one you've worn yourself. Or it could be something you've seen on a friend or TV. Do you create your own updos, get a friend's help, or go to a salon?

I pretty much do my own. Whenever a friend tries to help, they're usually not used to working with so much hair (it's only just past BSL, but it's pretty thick). And as for salons, I just don't have the cash.
Since I dance, I have gotten quite good at the "slick it all back, don't budge" bun, but it's so severe-looking that I pretty much save that for performance (Haven't tried it since I got bangs, though, so this could be interesting). For dance classes and rehearsals, as well as other exercise, I prefer a really high pseudo-bun where I fold the ponytail under once then loop it through the elastic.
For everyday, I tend to favor simple mid-height ponytails, but lately I've also been into low side buns (I saw Jennifer Aniston wearing a side bun a while back and thought that it was cute, and I like it on myself even better).
An updo that I really like when my hair is curly is as follows: First, pull hair back from the temples as though to do half-up half-down, then secure with a medium-sized claw clip. Then, gather hair at the nape, twist upwards, and secure with a second clip above the first, leaving ends sticking out. Looks best when done kind of loosely.
------------- Monica: Isn't there any way that you could look at this as flattering? I mean, she's doing this to be more like you. Rachel: Well, then, couldn't she have just copied my haircut?

My favorite is the french twist. It poofs my hair in the back of my head on top in such a way that it's flattering to my face shape (which is long) and makes me look sophisticated. I can wear lots of pretty hair holders with it too.

I love those hippie/medieval inspired dos, with little braids, beads, the top hair in something bunlike and the rest of the (long-long) hair worn down. I personally do not (really!) look good in a half up, half down style, but I still think itīs lovely.
