Hi everyone, I am 16 years old and have long blonde hair that goes a little past my waste. I have had my hair almost this long since like elementry school, and have only ever gotten it trimmed an inch or 2 once in a while to get rid of the split ends. Anyway, I wanna get it cut, I have an appointment on Sunday but I don`t know what I want. I mean I wanna cut it short, like maybe shoulder legnth or a little shorter, but I am scared. My hair has never been that short. I know I don`t want layers because if I decide to grow it back out I want it all even. I would get it cut to about mid back, but then it is basically the same thing and I`ll end up wanting to grow it back anyway, and it will still take a while. People tell me not to cut it, but I kind of want a change. Anyway, please help me because I am scared and I might end up just going for another 2 inch trim. Thanks.

I`m sure that it is scary but you sound like you want to do this. You will never know if you like short hair unless you try it and as you said it will grow back. You could even go with some light layering if you want - this would not be detrimental to you if you decide you want to grow it back. If you want to do it then go for it! If it is too scary, you could do it in stages: mid-back, shoulder, chin length...or something like that.

And if it does grow back you can always go to the hair beautician or whatever and have it cut.

Cutting off so much length is a big change, and although it will grow back that will take quite some time....And unless you`re sure that this is what you want to do, maybe a 2 inch trim is best at this stage? Maybe you won`t find out what short hair is like, but at least you won`t end up weeping over your lost long hair! Just be sure, OK? Chris

I cut mine about ten inches two months ago, and I was really scared, but now I like it. And, if its been the same for a long time, a new look might be good- after all, you`re not the same person now that you were then, right? There`s lots of great pix on this site if you need help looking for a new style. Good luck!! Love to all, Firsh

Reply to message: viewthread.asp?forum=AMB%5FAP673892709&id=2958&page=1#20.2958.1 - 20.2958.1 I know how scary cutting long hair can be because I did it last August. It was shocking at first, but now I`ve gotten used to it and I really like it. You can always grow it out again, and you never realize how many things you can do with shoulder-length hair that you can`t with long hair. You should do whatever makes you feel comfortable, but if you cut your hair, please donate it to a place like Locks for Love, where they make wigs for children with cancer. That`s what I did, and whenever I start wanting long hair again, I just think of the child who has my hair now, who otherwise would`ve been really embarrassed because they had no hair.

Actually, Locks of Love does not make wigs for children with cancer. Follow the link below for the word from their spokesperson.

I think most girls are scared to some degree whenever they consider making a big change in hairstyle, so that`s only normal. You need to decide if really do want to change. getting it cut to mid back is not going to give you a new look, just shorter long hair. I prefer long to medium styles but if you`ve had your hair that long for that many years i feel you owe it to yourself to try something shorter. You never know...it could be exciting and you could end up loving it. Good luck
