Hi i`m seriously thinking about going red permantly but I need some questions answered.

1.How often would I have to dye it?
2.Would I have to dye the whole head every time I dyed it?
3.Would it seriously affect the condition?

I have medium brown hair which is about two and a half inches below my earlobe and its in quite good condtion.

Thanx

Hey i want to do the same thing! I haven`t done it yet but I`m trying to get my mom`s ok (she`s kinda weird about this) so I have been asking the same questions. This is what I have found out.

1. Depends on how much the different colored roots bother you. If you color it a red shade that is close to your brown color then the roots will be less noticable and you probably won`t have to do it as much. I think every 6 weeks is pretty average.

2. I don`t think so. I think you can touch up the roots most of the time.

3. I don`t think it has to but I think it depends mostly on wether you have to lighten your hair first. If you want a lighter shade of red than your brown color then you have to lighten it first and this is harder on your hair and also harder to touch up the roots. If your hair is a lightish brown anyway then you might be able to just add a red tone to it and this is not hard on your hair.

I think I am going to try semi-permanent color first because the permanent color sounds a lot harder to keep up.

I tried a semi-permanant colour twice, which was quite a bit darker than my natural colour brown.
Antways, it looked really good. When I got to school on the Monday, I got compliments all day. It looked *really shiny*.
A couple of weeks ago I suggested to my friends that I might get blonde highlights put through it but they all said to go red again.
I had a bad blonde a few years ago and I`m terrified of putting a permanant colour on it again in case it goes all bad again.

How old are you? and how come your mom won`t let you do it?

yeah can i just say that you can just get the roots done each time but you might have to get the whole head done after a couple of times because the red colour really does fade fast. I`ve tried red before and it looked wicked, go for it!

Don`t get me wrong. I get along great with my mom but she is kind of the all natural type and when I tell her I want to color my hair she is like "why would you want to do that? your hair is beautiful the way it is" kind of thing. She doesn`t forbid me to do it or anything but I would have to pay for it and do it myself. She would even probably help me if I needed her to but she doesn`t know anything about coloring hair anyway so I would have to tell her how to do it which is why I was trying to learn how to do it myself. Does that make sense? If you knew her it would make more sense. She has long hair with streaks of grey which she says she likes, never wears makeup and she is still really beautiful in her way.
