I have black hair, but if I dye my hair brown first maybe medium brown then light brown or just once and keep it like that for a while, will it reduce the damage of the bleaching?

are you dying it brown for any reason? if you dye it a lot, no matter how far apart, you`re hair is going to get damaged so if you don`t need the brown dont do it.

I would say no, because you`d be processing your hair again if you dye it blonde after the brown.

In other words, you are dyeing lighter on top of ONE dye job...this is usually a prescription for fried hair.

I heard that bleaching from really dark to light only really fries your hair if you`ve dyed it before but I want to make sure.
Can I dye my hair any colour on top of it? I don`t want it to be permanent though. (The second colour, not the blonde)

if you do dye it lighter brown then bleach it, it`ll damage your hair even more...but if you don`t then the bleach won`t show up as well on the dark, or at least, it won`t look as good. go to a hairdresser and ask for their help and what they think is the best way and what will do the least damage. they help a lot. i almost permed my hair and then straightened it in less than three months, but my mom MADE me ask a professional first..i`m glad i did! they said if i had gone ahead and straightened it, my hair literally would have ALL fallen out...every strand. aaaahhhhh!!! ask a pro!!!!!!!

I don`t see how it wouldn`t show up as good I think you`re thinking of ordinary dye and not bleach I`ve seen loads of people with black hair bleach it blonde and it shows up fine. But thanks anyway i`lll make sure not to dye it ever until I bleach it.

If you are doing the dark-light in one take and have someone who knows HOW to do it, then you shouldn`t get too fried.

I don`t know how temporary Manic panic is-or isn`t.
If you get your hair really light (like I think you are suggesting), then you should be able to put pretty much all the colors on it (I`ve seen some stunning and unnatural effects with that, and they don`t necessarily look bad because they are unnatural).

There is also KOOL AID for the fiancially challenged punk look, but ahem, don`t ask me how they do it.

Whatever you do, the bleach will make your hair more porous and it will absorb dyes more. So don`t get paint or food dye in your hair if you go really light :)

Thanx! I`ll give it a try when my hair grows out (Should take another 8 months =( )

Can I dye it black anytime I want, but leave bits of blonde thati can dye different colours and still wash it all off so I don`t need to bleach it (and wreck my hair) again?
