Hi,

I was wondering if washing your hair daily causes a problem? I noticed that if I go one day without washing my hair it seem to be greasy. I tried to skip a day of washing my hair, but I can't stand the site of my hair being the littlest bit greasy. I don't know if my shampoo plays a part on it(pear's by suave) and I only apply conditionner to the end of my hair. Can anyone give me a little advice on making my hair less greasy?

Thx a bunch:)

How old are you Ash? How long is your hair.

Do you use any styling products?

My daughter, 15, swears that her hair stays cleaner with Alternas' hemp conditioning, poo. She shampoos about every 3rd day. (Although everyone is different)
And I have used her as a guinea pig for many different shampoos.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but i wash my hair with shampoo like every 3-5 weeks or so. Now before you all start with the "ewwww" and "gross" think about it for a second.

Your scalp is a self cleaning organ. My understanding is that the oils your hair folicles secrete are dolled out according to how much is already there. Meaning that If you wash your hair daily (don't) then your scalp will compensate for that stripping of the oils by producing more. That's why if you are on a scheduele of washing every day, when you skip a day your hair feels very greasy.

Now i only wash one every 3-5 weeks but my hair is only slightly oilier than a normal persons. That's because my scalp only needs to produce a very small amount of oil to maintain the level it needs to keep the skin conditioned.

Now mind you, at first my hair did get very greasy. I was on a daily washing routine but decided to gradually stop. The first 3-4 weeks sucked, my hair was limp, greasy and generally disgusting. but the results are well worth it IMO. After about 3 weeks it seems that your hair starts to clean itself.

Now I do still shower every day and i fully soak my hair and rinse it a couple times. But I am a smoker so i do that to get the stench of cigarettes off it and any excess oils are washed away.

I don't know what any of the resident stylists think about my hair care routines or if they can cheer or jeer the validity of the above statements but it works for me and i'm happy with it.

Though i would be quite interested to hear from some professionals about how wrong or right I am regarding the subject .

ok if your like me and male
i only wash mine like every 4 weeks or something..
it doesnt get dirty because i shower twice a day

the reason im doing this is.. because it makes it easier to gel my hair and when i was caditioning and washing it daily.. when i went to gell it i would have to have hair spray and gel just to keep it up.
