The question is: does going short ever work with thick hair? Mine is dirty blonde and long, quite thick. I am considering going for a choppy blonde bob. I tried going for a bob before, but it went puffy, so could i use straighteners/get a better stylist to sort this?
Thanks in advance for the replies. Photos of things you think I would like and advice are much appreciated!

Sometimes it does... My best friend has thick wavy poofy hair when she goes short. But that way she saves time on detangling and gentle care. It depends on what you want. There's an upside/downside to short/long.
Manageable short hair that can get expensive-- You mentioned straighteners. Straightening and relaxing short poofy hair is also something you can do, but it makes your short hair a lot more expensive to maintain. Personally I'd stick with the long hair, but don't let this change your mind if you've got your heart set on the bob : )
Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I already have ceramic straighteners for my long hair so I wouldn't have to spend extra money on this btw. I did find a picture of a cool hair cut in a back issue of a teen magazine. It's chin length at the back, and at the front it has a sweeping fringe to one side, and kids of tousled looking. She also has blonde highlights in the same base colour hair as me, so it's a possibility. Wish I could post a picture.
I'd be a big worried about going short if I knew I couldn't tie it back. I've lived in a ponytail for my teens years! So much easier...but very boring.

If you like the pic in the teen magazine, it will help to bring that to show your stylist. It's also good that you won't have to spend on professional straightening treatments. People get great results from ceramic irons, as long as (a) you're not growing your hair out, and (b) you get frequent trims. If straightening has been working for your long hair's volume, I think it will work to control a short bob. but don't take my word on it-- ask your local friends, and hopefully they can show you their own results.
And with long hair and ponytails, that doesn't always have to be the case. You can still try new non-ponytail things with long hair... new braiding, new parting, new updos, half-updos, various hair toys. Long hair is only as boring as the spare time you have for it. : )
Good luck Anais

Why don't you get some layers cut into the bob?
