i'm a poor pathetic 16 year old who has apparently a beautiful shade of red hair...but the only problem is, it's frizzy! it's wavy, but an ugly uneven wavy type..and it's completely frizzy. i use frizzease...which..doesn't do much. i'm forbidden to straighten my hair, because of 2 years of using a ceramic hair straightener, my hair got thin. so now it's healthy again...and poofy. i do scrunch it sometimes, but sometimes its really really good, and other times, it's pure crap.

i want the look that the olsen twins, or kate hudson has...that wavy pretty tamed look. i know they have professionals style their hair...but i want a way to do it at home...and hopefully with out a curling iron. i've gotten some ways on how to do them, and all have failed.
1. put your hair into several braids, let it dry..then take them out: ok. so i let it dry. it was a failure. it was still frizzy...and...it didn't curl or anything. plus i need something quick. about 30 minutes to do.
2. scrunch: if that really worked, i wouldn't be making this novel of a post.

any helpful hints from the successful people, or people who know what they're doing?

Hmmm... I doubt there's a quick solution. But I must say, I'm glad you're not ironing your hair anymore! Freedom at last. Anyhoo, I need more info before trying to help you out. Please answer the following questions:

1. What is your hair type now? I understand it got thin, and I'm so sorry you lost some hair that way : ( . Is your hair fine/medium/coarse?
2. What shampoos/conditioners do you use?
3. What hair products do you use (besides the FrizzEase)?
4. Do you blow dry, curl, or wash with hot water? Any of these can be a cause. Especially if you have fine hair.
5. What do you use to comb/brush your hair? If you comb, is the comb seamless?
6. How long is your hair?

Frizz is a combination of many factors. For many people, frizz problems are simply genetic. For others, frizz is a matter of damage and lack of care. Certain conditioner ingredients can also make the natural hair drying process a little "uneven". I hope this makes sense.

Hugs,
Anais

1. What is your hair type now? I understand it got thin, and I'm so sorry you lost some hair that way : ( . Is your hair fine/medium/coarse? its medium. (it also had been thin because i lost alot of weight)
2. What shampoos/conditioners do you use? i use dove. i need to find something else.
3. What hair products do you use (besides the FrizzEase)? nothing else.
4. Do you blow dry, curl, or wash with hot water? Any of these can be a cause. Especially if you have fine hair.: yes i do wash with hot/warm water...i hate cold showers.
5. What do you use to comb/brush your hair? If you comb, is the comb seamless? i use a...brush? but it's...i don't know how to explain it. it's made with plastic things...and plastic balls at the ends of each "tooth"?
6. How long is your hair? like...2.5 or 3 inches past my shoulder.

It seems your hair isn't doing well with a silicone-less hair product. Dove is famous for not using any ingredients that end in "cone". My hair used to be a frizzy mess too, until I started using Suave BioBasics (from their professionals line), which contains "dimethiconol". This is a kind of chemical hair coating that tends to cause less buildup then others. Anyway, some hair types just like the polymer ingredients in those brands such as L'Oreal, Suave, and Pantene. Just be sure to do some clarifying once every two weeks.

Your brush could also be a culprit, depending on the way you work through tangles. The best way is to work through tangles with your fingers, then brush.

Do you use a boar bristle brush? These might help distribute some of that scalp oil to moisturize your length. Sometimes frizz is from lack of moisture. You could also try a heavy oil treatment (oil your hair heavily with coconut oil perhaps) before a thorough hairwash. It's helped me tremendously.

Best of luck,
Anais

i never knew what shampoos and conditioners to use...i used pantene once, and that did nothing. does aussie have any good ones? i love the smell..haha.

and i don't use a boar bristle brush. i can't describe mine..but it works very well. nothing wrong with it.

and i use my fingers first...tangles hurt! i don't usually have many though... and i do start from the bottom, and work my way up.

but i still need an answer to my other question on how to get that hairstyle i wanted...and can't get cause i don't know how to do it.

i want it to look like this... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/sammo/index.jpg - http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v40/sammo/index.jpg

Looks like that style can be done with damp rope braiding. But... you''d probably have to find something to take care of the frizz problem first. I don''t know much about Aussie... but Australian Organics is pretty good at least for Caucasian hair (not sure if they''re the same thing)

damp rope braiding..it looks like it should...but it didn't work for me!! i guess i should have put mousse or gel through my hair first?

and i used pantene today...the smooth and sleek stuff, and it worked better. it was less frizzy, and smoother. now. just to get even waves again...eh i guess i gotta train my hair to curl again. (i used to have waves, but also curls...it was pretty. bad ceramics hair straightener iron!)

Hi Sammo,

Yeah... you have a great point. With long term damage, your hair won't be the same until it grows out normal again. Damage drastically changes the behavior of your hair overall.

Some hair genetically won't do well with rope braiding or any other natural way to set waves. You could try going a little damper than usual and leaving your rope braids in overnight... (I damp braided overnight a couple days ago--and I'm still wavy as ever!) Or give it several more hours than you usually do, because some hair just takes a bit more time. I hope this works better for you.

Hugs,
Anais

Yeah, I'd have to agree about the timing.. I do the same thing, planning my hair experiments for the weekend or on a 'dead week' in case the plans backfire. Especially when I'm trying out a new shampoo or conditioner..

Good luck, and be sure to let us know how things go.

well. i've been getting it now. i just scrunch my hair..and though it's crunchy for about...2 hours, i wait until it's dry, and then run my fingers through it. it's as close as i can get to the real thing..but it looks good.
