I am growing my hair out at the moment, but my question is - would it be possible for me to dye my hair black? My hair is currently a darkish blonde colour. I have the same colour eyebrows so am not sure if this would look terrible with black hair. and then theres the obvious problem of when the dye starts growing out.

So I need some advice, would this be possible or should I just forget it and stick with blonde? I have also seen a look where some boys have darker coloured hair underneath but very light blonde colour all over the top of their hair. I like that look also, how is it achieved? I suppose I would need dark hair for that though.

If you're growing your hair out, I say hold the dye until you've reached your growth goal. During growth it's important to minimize chemical exposure.

I guess after that, it's all down to whether you like how it would look. But it's easy to dye lighter hair into a dark color.

Most people who are blonde and go to black also have their eyebrows done so they match. Have that done at a salon though by professionals, you don't want to get it in your eyes and blind yourself.

If you're sure you want black hair, then go for it. Just make sure you're ready for the commitment, though. It will be very difficult to go back to a lighter colour if you change your mind and removing the colour will damage your hair.

Hmm I may ask my hairdresser if she thinks it would look good. Having said that though my hair may look fine being blonde and the length I want it. The style/length I want is like this:

...but I cant see it looking any good blonde. Would it?

I think it would look just fine blond. Whether or not you look good in black will depend on your coloration. If you look good when you wear black, you will be more likely to be able to pull it off on your head.

kevvosa, trying on a black wig would be a good idea.

I've been dying my hair since 4th grade and I now regret it. I still do it, but I regret starting so soon. Natural blonde hair is so hard to come by and it's usually beautiful. Most girls would kill to have naturally blonde hair instead of, as in my case, having to pay up to 75$ to make it blonde. ;x I say keep it for a while. Enjoy it while it lasts. Blonde to black is a MAJOR change and yes, it probably wouldn't quite look right with your eyebrows unless you dyed them as well. If you do decide to color your hair, I'd suggest starting with a light brown and then gradually going darker so see if this is something you really want to do. Black would easily stick to blonde hair, but it is extremely hard to get out and get back to blonde if you don't like it. Good luck!!

If you can't get your hands on a black wig, go to the Try It On Studio at www.clairol.com. You can upload a photo of yourself and try on different colours and styles. I think there's a similar program at www.lorealparis.com

I have very fair skin and wear black a lot -- I think it looks good on me, but I know I could never pull off black hair.

If you do decide you want to try black hair, maybe you should try something temporary first like L'Oreal Color Pulse Electric Black. It washes out gradually in about 10 shampoos and should be quite gentle on your hair.
