My hair is thick, naturally wavy, dry, some frizzies and somewhat coarse. I have been growing out my layers, so it is pretty much one-length to about my shoulders. Underneath is really becoming wavy and the top part is flat! I have a mix! I haven't had any kind of permanent in years, just natural curl. I currently am using John Freida "Frizz-Ease" and Phyto?? (some kind of frizz control stuff that works pretty good) to temporarily help smooth out my hair. I read somewhere about some kind of "safe" hair relaxer that is not too damaging to the hair. Does anyone know? Thanks!Margaret>

Hi Margaret,Any type of hair straightener involves the application of chemicals of some type. Whenever you apply chemicals to the hair (perms, straighteners or color) you risk damage to the hair mainly because it will impact the hair cuticle. The cuticle are the little fish like scales that are the outer most part of the hair.I think you take a risk any time you chemically alter the cuticle. I am not familiar with the different hair straightening formulas so I would recommend that you research it carefully before you proceed and find a hair stylist that specializes in the procedure.Good luck. Hi again..I did some research.....Matrix has a pretty good product that does not contain ammonia (which is what damages the hair cuticle) and it is called Vavoom Straight Talk. It is a curl remover. My research shows that it gets rid of waves, uncontrollable cowlick and frizz.
