I have EXTREMELY T-H-I-C-K hair! I really want to cut it short though. I'm thinking maybe an inch or two below my ears, kind of a bob. Two years ago I butchered my long hair to an untameable short wedge. I couldn't control my hair, I landed up with a fro. Now with more practice I think I can do a good job styling a short cut, but with such thick hair do you think I'll just land up with another fro?

I have similar hair and I've tried this several times. It takes a LOT of work and styling products to keep thick hair managble when it's short. Keep in mind that to keep it from fro-ing you have to style it every single day... even those days you're feeling too lazy to put on your make-up. I find my hair is a lot easier to manage with he heavier weight of some length. And if you do cut it... whatever you do, DON'T let them layer your hair. I've had so many stylists say "Oh here, let me put in some layers, it will bring out the curl..." WRONG... those layers turn into unmanagble frizz in one washing.-jj

Dear Sylvia,Take heart ! Please don't "butcher" your hair ! Give it a chance to grow. I know it is very tempting to cut your hair and have things going easy. However try to resist temptation. I definitely know that long thick hair looks great on girl. That's what I always think when I see a girl with short thick hair and think , gosh that girl would have looked great with long hair. I think very few girls are blessed with having thick hair. Most of them have to deal with thin mousy hair throughout their lives. Just think about it! So just give your hair a chance and you will see the rewards for being patient.Good luck,Stephen

Just think> about it!> StephenPlease Stephen, not so harsh on us girls with not-so-thick hair! Women have to deal with so many pressures, breasts are too small, butt is too big, lips aren't full enough, hair isn't thick enough, straight hairs that want it curly, curly hairs that want it straight. We can't change the texture or thickness of our hair any more than we can change the color of our skin. It's great that you love thick hair and I say GO Sylvia as far as growing her hair, but could we be a little more sensitive? You're right, not everyone is blessed with the hair of a Karen or Noreen or Sylvia and many of us struggle with that all our lives! Fine hair can look quite nice long too, airy and light and flowing. Don't discourage the girls with the fine hair, they need your support too!Very best wishes to all,Dawn

Dear Dawn,I apolgise if I have offended your feelings or anybody else's feeling with my comments. I do not have any problems with women having thin hair. As you said as long as they wear their hair long ! I just wanted to encourage Sylvia in the best possible way to grow her hair long , that's all.Regards,Stephen
