Hi all...........saw on this site that olive oil is great for your hair.....mine is armpit level....but a bit dry.....do you put it on damp hair,or on dry hair???do you leave it on for hours????Any suggestions would be appreciated...by the way,this site is great,I've learnt alot.....

Hi Russ,Dry hair for sure. Wet hair would not work well at all.Here is what I do...1. Heat 100% extra virgin olive oil in the microwave or on the store until warm...but not really hot. 2. Go into the bathroom or somewhere that it is ok to have a little mess (I stand in the bathtub) and then start at the ends of your hair and apply the oil with your fingertips. Apply oil to all the dry parts of the hair. If your scalp or top hair tends to be oily, don't apply olive oil to this part or it will make it even oilier. 3. Carefully pile your hair up so that it doesn't drip oil. Wrap in plastic wrap or apply a shower cap. If you want to realy get a good treatment wrap a hot towel in turban style around the shower cap or plastic.Leave on your hair for at least 30 minutes. The longer the better.Then wash your hair and use a gentle shampoo. I use Aveda Shampure and do a good sudsing. I try not to over shampoo after olive oil treatments because I do not want to wash out all the good oil.After I have rinsed the shampoo out I apply a good rinse out conditioner like Cherry Almond Bark by Aveda or Deep Conditioner. Then for final rinse I do the coldest water I can stand.I use a thick towel and carefully blot my hair dry. Then I let it air dry. This works really well on dry hair.If you have questions...let me know.Best wishes for shiny hair.KarenPS.
