Hi,There are tons of different perms. You can get perms on pin curls, small, medium or large rollers. You can get perms on part of your hair, all or your hair or in different concentrations. There is even a shop in the Northwest that uses carpet padding to twist perms into all sorts of big fat curls. I have even heard of perm solution being applied to rag curls with some success. The key is to find a perm expert and work with them to get the best perm for your hair type.It is hard to give a general explanation because each perm is different in terms of how long the perm solution is left on, what size curlers or other devices are recommended and what the goal is.Perms can give body, curl or a combination. The cost can vary, the time that the solution is left on can vary and the devices used cover the entire spectrum. The type of perm you get is only limited to the skill of your hairstylist.A spiral perm gives banana curls, a body perm gives just fullness, a pincurl perm gives soft pincurls, a rag perm gives soft banana curls and a perm set on just the ends will give curly ends.Sorry to be so vague. It is hard to give precise details without more info on the type of look you hope to obtain.I would recommend finding a perm expert and having a consultation ONLY and working out a plan of action. After you feel comfortable with your options, then go for the perm.By the way, it is not good to have a perm or any chemical treatments to your hair if it is not in good shape. Keep that in mind.Best wishes,Karen> i am thinking about getting a perm for the> 1st time . i have wery thick hair could some one> explain in detail how it(whats done, how long, etc.)> is> thanks
