I'm having terrible trouble with breakage and split ends all of a sudden! I haven't had trouble with either for a long time. I think part of it has to do with the sudden change in temperature, the cold air outside and the heaters being on inside. Anyway, I use conditioner every time I wash my hair, and I wash my hair either every day or every other day. I use VO5 Essence of Natural Henna shampoo; half the time I use VO5 Essence of Natural Henna conditioner and the other half of the time I use Queen Helene's Cholesterol Conditioning Cream. Any suggestions? I've trimmed about an inch off of my hair at once and have been trimming individual split ends off, too. I hate to loose any length - my hair is waist length and I'm trying to grow it to about mid-thigh. Please help!

Hi Jen,I can really relate to this. It happens to me every year when the weather changes. I usually do two things to help get through this.First I do a hot olive oil treatment and leave it on for several hours. I wrap the hot oil in a shower cap and then apply a hot towel from the clothes dryer and then just hang out and try not to drip too much. The other thing I do is apply just a little bit of Aveda Beautifying Oil to the dry parts of my hair every night before I go to bed. This helps.I also make sure to use only my most moisturizing shampoos like ARTec Smoothing or Aveda Shampure. I have a tendency to want to turn the water hotter in the shower when it gets cold out...but I resist as much as possible because hot water in the shower will make my hair drier.I also crank up my essential fatty acids or vitamin E for a few days to see if that makes a difference. If the above mentioned suggestions don't help...you may have something else happening and I would suggest that you have a medical checkup.A friend of mine noticed her hair getting really dry and breaking and it turned out that she had developed a low thyroid condition.Try the oils and if you don't see an improvement in about 2 weeks or so, consider a checkup.Best wishes,Karen> I'm having terrible trouble with breakage and split> ends all of a sudden!
