I want a simple hair style for long thick hair that looks more sophisticated than a braid or pony tail. I part my hair on the side with no hope of changing that now due to a calic. When I put hair in a bun my hair breaks. I would like to look more like a 40 year-old and less like an 18-year-old. Any suggestions?

I recently did a 3 part series on styles for long hair. The first one had several versions of the French Twist which is excellent for long to very long hair. I am in my 40s and wear all the long styles that I have included in my 3 part series. The 3rd part includes styles for shorter hair as well. This series will continue until I run out of ideas or interest dies...whichever happens first. Here are the URLS for the styles: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip075.htmhttp://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip072.htmhttp://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip070.htmYou - http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip075.htmhttp://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip072.htmhttp://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip070.htmYou might want to try a French braid that is tucked under into a soft bun at the end and which looks like a very sophisticated...in my opinion....for any age.A chignon worn softly at the nape of the neck is always appropriate for any age. I wear this style often when I have business meetings and need to pull my hair back: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip022.htmMy - http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip022.htmMy review of Patrick Cameron's book...dressing long hair has 3 photos of different long hair styles. These can be worn younger or older depending on the hair adornments that are added (flowers make it look younger in many cases)Check out these styles at: http://www.hairboutique.com/books/bookreview089.htmIf - http://www.hairboutique.com/books/bookreview089.htmIf you go to the bottom of this URL: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip069.htmYou - http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip069.htmYou can see an example of an Asian Knot that is worn as a half up/half down example. The Romantic Updos article includes 3 more casual updo looks at: http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip063.htmIvana - http://www.hairboutique.com/tips/tip063.htmIvana Trump is known for her version of a type of French Twist. She is in her 40s. Also Jane Fonda favors a version of the French Twist with soft bangs and soft fringe hair at the temples.Hope that helps.Best wishes,Karen> I want a simple hair style for long thick hair that> looks more sophisticated than a braid or pony tail.
