I was wondering if any ladies could tell me how to create a poofed out look in gelled hair. I'm using a plastic tortoiseshell headband (ones with little teeth around the edges) and am pulling it straight back to give it a smooth combed look as though done witkh a fine tooth comb. How do you create a poofed out look in the front (like a small hill effect). Secondly, my hair is not long enough for a flexible comb, but I was wondering about a comb hairband (headeband with the teeth pointed out) Will that give me an accordian look. I'm a guy, but I'm noy gay. I just like hair accessories. Do you think that is so terrible? My hair is about the length of a pageboy. I hope the fine ladies here don't mind me asking. I've always had the utmost respect for women.

Hi Mic,Thanks for your post.Patrick Cameron has a fabulous book (he is from London) on dressing longer styles. One style that he includes from his book is a really poofy front like you mention. He creates the look by backcombing or teasing the hair. That is basically what you have to do to get the effect. So the area you want to "poof up" would need to be backcombed. The more you backcomb...the higher the hill.As far as the headband....the flexible headband could work. I do want to warn you that they are famous for chewing up hair. I personally don't recommend them to anyone wanting to grow their hair longer because of the potential damage.If you don't care about the risk, the headbands can be bought at Claire's or many of the Sally Beauty stores.I think it is great that you love experimenting with your hair.Best wishes,Karen> I was wondering if any ladies could tell me how to> create a poofed out look in gelled hair.
