Hi I was wondering about how often should one cut their hair and how much if you want to grow out your hair long, but yet still keep it looking healthy? i generally either do about 1/8 of an inch every month or 2.

I generally do not do much to my hair except to dye it every 4 months (well at least after my 5 months left before next time i dye it is over [i had bad experience w/ trying to bleach my hair:( and ended up cutting 3/4 of an inch in a month;/.]) I don`t blow dry my hair, i always wear it naturally curly, and i always put leave in moisturizers and NEVER use anything with alchohol in it (unfortunently my mousse has silicone urgh)

i`m starting to get annoyed w/ growing out my hair long, i am still in the part where you can`t do anything to your hair at all and my naturally curly hair makes my hair look 3 inches shorter then it really is, but luckily i remember how much i despise my hair being short hehe

thanx,
justin

I`ve been growing my hair out from a very short cut about three and a half years ago. It was about two or three inches all over. It is now to bra strap/mid back length, and it`s curly. I completely understand about the shrinkage. The best thing you can do is be patient. I was so happy when it got long enough to pull back. Then I could basically ignore the length. Every once in awhile I would notice that is was getting longer.

I trim my own hair and don`t do it very often...about every 6 to 8 months. I try not to use a blow dryer too much but have also been using Thermasilk mousse which seems to be helping. So, just keeping my hair healthy keeps me from having to trim it too much or very often. I would say just keep doing what you are doing, try not trimming too often, and be patient.

I`m growing my hair out too. I`ve always had hair to my waist but 2 years ago cut it to a bob-hated it. I`ve been letting it grow since. I get 1/4 of a inch cut off every 10 weeks. Right now my hair is 24.5 inches long and my goal is 30 inches. What has really helped me is the www.longhairlovers.com site, they have great tips on keeping your hair healthy and growing it out as quickly as possible. HTH
