Hi Pamela,This information is the courtesy of Victor from the Men's Long Hair Site:"You may be interested to know some things about Anatto. It is frequently used in South America as a colorant. Perhaps you have seen pictures of Incas with what looks like red clay in their hair. That is actually pure Anatto. They also use it to mark their faces. Achiote is also the same thing as Anatto and is used as a spice in Caribean and Central American dishes. For me, I find tamales to be incompleteunless they are cooked with achiote in banana leaves. But these are hard to come by here."I used Anatto on my blonde hair. It gave it a definite strawberry look. So from that standpoint...it does work on blonde hair. It is sometimes hard to find because it is not as popular.Best wishes,Karen> I was looking at Aveda's Annatto products. What is> Annato, what does it do and does it work on blonde> hair?> Pamela

You can often find annato in chinese grocery stores and latin american markets rathar cheaply, a small bag for a dollar or two. They looks like small rusty red seeds, a bit smaller than lemon seeds. You can also find it in gourmet shops at exhorbitant prices. If you are interested in learning how to cook with annato, you can check out my website.Related Link:Etznab's Latino Recipes
