I'm trying to find Dawn. I know there are several out there, but the one I'm looking for is blonde, the one who hasn't cut her hair in 22 years, owns an herb farm...that one. I just need to ask a question about her hair, since we seem to be about the same age, hair type, etc. Thanks much! --Gigi

Hi Gigi!Yes, I'm a hopeless Hair Boutique addict and I'm here. Real life and family matters have limited my response time recently but I have to confess to a quick lurk just about every day and its been wonderful fun to see all the new people on the board lately and hear what they have to say. What's up with you? It would be my pleasure to help in any way that I can, fire away.> I'm trying to find Dawn. Hi, Wow I'm amazed. It's sort of like calling Superman and having him just appear! LOL Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you though, I just couldn't get connected to Hair Boutique. Anyway, I noticed your hair pictures on the Internat'l Long Hair Club site and was especially impressed at what terrific condition it is in. Often I see women with really long hair that has 6 to 10 inches of serious damage at the ends. Yours looks incredible! Many sites say the best way to grow hair is not to color, the problem is that for most of us over the age of 29 (and some even younger)that advice just isn't practical. I don't want the gray to show, so I have to color, and a temporary or semi-permanent doesn't work because it has to be done so much, I think that may actually cause more damage. My hair is light golden brown permanent color with some chunky pale gold highlights picture framed around my face. I used to do it myself with great results, but the last two times have had it done in a salon because she's a little braver and more dramatic with the highlights than I am on my own. I love the way it looks but, ugh, it's hard on my hair. It looks good, but I am starting to see lots of splits in the ends of the highlighted strands.I'm in my early thirties and, I could be wrong, but I assumed that you might be too. If so, how do you deal with grey hair. Do you use a permanent color and do you do it yourself or go to a salon? Also, your hair seems to be highlighted. I'm wondering how you avoid chemical damage, how often you do it, and any other tips you could give me.Thanks for the help! --Gigi

Hi Gigi!I appreciate the effort you've gone to and thanks very much for the kind words! I'm afraid though that I can't help you at all. I've never used any type of colorants on my hair and so have no experience at all to offer advice from. I'm actually almost 40 but my hair is a very light red/blonde and I don't have any gray. Its just the lighting in the picture, since it was in the shade. In the bright sun my hair looks like a rosy gold. My best advice though would be to take a message that Cher has often posted and just let your hair be. The silver is lovely I'm sure and natural is always the best way to go.Good luck, whatever you decide! Karen has lots of great tips about coloring hair, check her articles section.Best wishes,Dawn>Hi, Wow I'm amazed. It's sort of like calling Superman> and having him just appear! Thanks for the reply. You have some amazing natural highlights, how fortunate. So, what are you going to do when yours gets gray, are you just going to let it go gray or are you going to do something to it? I'm taking a watercolor class and my instructor has completely white hair that looks great, but, hmmm...I just don't know if I'm ready for that look yet.

Hi Gigi! My pleasure, I wish I could be of more help regarding the coloring question. Don't hate me for those highlights ok? Its something I had absolutely no control over. I have the same coloration, hair and skin, as my maternal grandmother and her hair didn't go grey till she was quite old so its not something I've thought about much, but when it does happen I'll just let it. Besides the color is naturally so light I've heard the "how do you color treat such long hair?" question before so I'm not sure it will be all that noticeable when the grey does start to come in. The what to do with grey question is understandably more of an issue when you're still very young, as you are. I say don't sweat it, natural is beautiful no matter what the color, I'm sure you're way more critical of yourself than others would be and I'll bet you look just great the way it is. You know, I do have a bit of advice though. My husband comes from a family where both sides went grey very, very early, I'm talking late twenties for his mom and by the time his dad was early thirties it was all grey too. My husband turned 40 last year though and doesn't have a bit of grey, not even a tinge around the temples and I'm pretty well convinced its because of the vitamin regime we've been on since we were in our very early twenties. Have you ever read Life Extension by Dirk Pearson and Sandy Shaw? Free radical therapy. The only way to prove I'm right will be long after everyone who doesn't believe me is dead though, so for me its just been a matter of faith in the science and the results I've witnessed over the past twenty years. Ours is a fairly straightforward program, eating right in general with E,A,B,C,D,multimineral, and a few other herbal supplements like dong qui (for women) and ginseng (for men). Maybe it might work for you too though and I'm certain it wouldn't hurt.Good luck!Very best wishes,Dawn>Thanks for the reply. You have some amazing natural> highlights, how fortunate. Interesting. I still color it all light golden brown right now, so not to worry, I'm not being hard on myself. It's more a question of which process is going to look best and be best for my hair in the long run. Although I suppose that letting ones hair go gray completely is making as much of a statement, so to speak, as someone who colors. I'm really just trying to decide which statement I'd like to make at this point. Anyway, I'll keep asking around and doing some research but I'm not really too hung up on the growing older thing to tell you the truth. Although I do have friends that are very defensive (and secretive) about their regimens, which I think is kind of funny. One friend will go to her grave before she ever admits (maybe even to herself) that she colors her hair! : ) Anyway, thanks again for the input. --Gigi
