I am trying to grow my hair long for the first time ever (right now it just touches my shoulders) I have read the "basics" about trims, vitamins, etc.

But I want to know from those of you who have long healthy hair, what is your secret to wonderful long hair?

There is no "secret" to growing long hair but here is what I have learned from 20 years of experience: 1) Decide you want long hair. Sometimes people say, "I don`t know if my hair would look good long." Or friends will say, "Why don`t you cut it?" You must decide if long hair is what you want. Once you`ve made this decision, don`t let people or fashion magazines change your mind. There will be pressure, and you must resist. 2) Get your nutrients. Eat a healthy diet with fruits, vegetables, and protein. Eating fish and nuts helps too. That being said, it`s nearly impossible to get all your nutrients for maximum hair growth from food alone. Take a quality vitamin supplement. 3) Use quality products made for your hair type (dry, fine, oily, etc.). Everyone seems to like different things, so it may take some time to find just the right ones for you. Get a wide tooth comb with smooth teeth. It is your friend; treasure it. Start combing your hair from the very ends and be very gentle and slow. If you must use a hair dryer, use the lowest setting. 4) Love your long growing hair! This is fun! Take pictures of it, measure it, learn fun braids for it. Enjoy the feeling as it touches for the first time your shoulders, back, waist, hips, knees, legs, ankles. Revel in the many compliments you receive. Compliment other long haired people. Meet amazing longhair enthusiasts on the Net.
