Please explain the difference between Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate. Are they both drying for the hair? If a product has Sodium Laureth Sulfate in it is it better for your hair? Or is it best to make sure neither of those ingredients are in the shampoo?

Hi there!I can not actaully tell you the chemical difference between Sodium Lauryl and Sodium Laureth, HOWEVER, I have read enough literature to tell you to STAY AWAY from Sodium LAURYL sulfate. It is a very drying, stripping detergent. However, Sodium LAURETH is the most gentle detergent that you can find and any Ammonium based products fall in between. For more info on Hair Ingred. I suggest that you look at the site ALL ABOUT HAIR-- it is very informative. In addition, you may want to check out Paula Begoun's book, "Don't Go SHopping for HairCare Products without Me). In addition, if you look at your best salon brands, most use Sodium Laureth Sulfate and in a small number of cases, Ammonium based detergents.Sherry> Please explain the difference between Sodium Lauryl> Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate.
