My hair gets extremely tangled. Big knots often form in my hair for no apparant reason. I have a sedentary desk job and don't own a convertible so I have no idea why this happens.I have gotten some great detangling tips from this board, such as the use of johoba oil. I detangle my hair evry night and braid it before going to sleep. Now I'm hoping someone has some suggestions on how to prevent the tangles from happening.I have dry hair that reaches my elbows. It has never been chemcially treated. I wash twice a week with ArcTec smoothing shamppo/conditioner. I add a little oil to my hair but use no other styling products. Thanks for any advice.

Try detangling your hair in the shower as you rinse out your conditioner, using a wide tooth comb. Wet your contioned hair so that it is very watey but still has a lot of conditioner in it. Use your comb to work with the water flowing through your hair. Don't force the tangles. If this does not work, repeat. Oh wait, you wanted prevention. Well, if you are already braiding your hair at bedtime, there is not a whole lot else you can do besides keeping the hair well conditioned (dry hair gets more tangles) and getting regular trimss.
