Hi,My 12 year old daughter is so depressed about her hair. When she was very young, her long blonde hair fell into beautiful ringlets, but it knotted up easy. Over the years her hair has become totally unmanagable. It is still long, because when I had it cut short it just staked up and she literally looked like a clown. She is scared to do anything to it, and honestly, so am I. I have tried everything I can think of. I have tried several products, washing her hair in spring water, using olive oil, using her fingers to detangle, etc., etc.,. Nothing works and she will be starting junior high in the fall. I was hoping to come up with a "program" for the summer. She has worn her hair in a bun for years, every day, and she lives in fear someone will knock her hair down. It really impedes her activities and I feel so sad. If anyone has any ideas, I would really, really appreciate it. Also, has anyone used Ouidad products for curly hair? If so, do they work? Thank you so much.Diana

Dear Diana,I know your troubles all to well. I myself have short curly hair and my younger sister who is also in Junior high has stuggled for years to find something that will work with her hair. Her hair is a little past her shoulders and is very curly like cork screws. I have found working on her hair to be a challange but it can be done. When she firsts gets out of the shower, why her hair is still wet take a wide-tooth comb and comb through it. It should still be wet when you go on to the next step. Take a gel, I prefer biologe gelee, and with your fingers work it through her hair. When you find a tight curl put a little extra on it. I find with the biolage that when it drys it will not be crunchy, but that will take practice to find out how much to use on your daughters hair. After you have worked it through just let it dry.My sister likes to wear it parted down the middle or with the top half pulled back into a ponytail and just when shes about to pull the ponytail all the way through she stops. This leaves the curlies all on top, kinda like a rainbow over the rest of her hair. Then the bottom is just tight curls. Another product to try is paul brown's Stay straight. Good luck! Just remember to try not to play with it that much, when its dry or it will frizz out!!

Also try KMS Flat Out and/or Graham Webb Stick Straight. Both are excellent at calming down and managing curls. As usual,JFRelated Link:JerkyFlea's Celebrity Hair Spray

I have dry puffy hair that fell in nice ringlets when i was little too, and I only recently figured out what the problem was. It was that I brushed it when it was dry, which pulled the curls into pouffy frizz. Now I never brush my hair at all, and I only comb it in the shower while my conditioner soaks in. Then I rinse it and blot it dry with a towel and work leave in conditioner through it with my fingers, and let it airdry in stages. If it dries all at once, its frizzy and the ringlets arent defined. But if I put it in a bun and let it out for like 5 minutes every half hour, then put it back up, in a couple hours my hair is dry, and in soft defined ringlets that are smooth and shiny. I know this is complicated, but its the only way I can wear my hair down and it works wonderfully. good luck! a godd moisturizing shampoo and conditoner helps a lot too
