I'm ashamed to admit it...but I tried to color my own hair this past weekend. About 3 months ago I went to a salon and had my natural dark brown hair colored. I went into a shade of red. My roots started to grow in, and the color turned "brassy." I decided to go back to my original brown. I purchased Loreal Feria and applied the color myself. EEEK! After rinsing it out, my hair is now a light blondish orange. I'm so ashamed that I attempted this myself instead of going to a professional. What I need now is some help and advice. Is there any way I could correct this and get back to my original chestnut brown myself? If so, how? Should I just go to a professional salon specializing in color correcting? How much will this cost? How soon can I attempt this without my scalp and hair reacting badly? Thanks for reading my post. I appreciate your time! :)

Hi,Sorry to hear of your hair problems. I would strongly recommend you get out the Yellow Pages and look for a "hair color expert" and call them and ask their advice. At this point I think if you can afford it, you should have a professional undo the current color. The more chemicals you apply, the more danger of damage to your hair. I don't want to scare you, just hope you can get some professional assistance to get your hair back to where you want it to be.Best wishes,Karen> I'm ashamed to admit it...but I tried to color my own> hair this past weekend. Being not able to see your hair as to color and condition, i cannot advise you to color at home for sure. However if you can't go to a salon for corrective work, you might try this, choose a 'deposit only color in a dark ash brown color and strand test just 1 strand for correctness of color and condition after drying, to see if it is acceptable. If ok proceed to color the rest of the hair the same as the strand. Please note the previous color you have done on your hair has made it more 'porus' and color is deposited deeper than virgin hair, so watch the length of time that you leave the color on your hair, it may reduced as much as 50% from virgin hair or more. Apply to within 1 inch of scalp and ends first and reapply to the scalp area last,(your body heat next to the scalp will cause it to 'take' deeper and faster than at the midlengths and ends.) good luck william
