W,illiam,After reading your many posts, I feel you are an expert on all phases of haircare. I am a hairdresser with baby fine, level 7 or 8( loreal color line),abundunt hair. I have been perming it on big green rollers about 2 times a year. This gives me lots of body and holds my curling iron sets, which I do almost dailey. Unfortunatly if I don't "do" my hair it is too flat and lifeless. Especially for a hairdresser, you recieve comments like "what happened to your hair?" or "What did you do to your hair?"My problem is my color needs some attention.sometimes I pull through fine fine highlights on the top and this helps "brighten" me up.I found out the hard way in beauty school that my hair is too fragile to recieve 4 perms a year and a full bleach highlight. The result was a full head of matted, broken, impossible to comb, with a green cast. I had wild hair and it took 45 minutes to look wild!My question is,do you think I could eliminate perms and just uses shades for body? I used vanilla creme with clear 2 weeks ago and my hair has felt fabulous (someone asked if I had a perm!)How often can I use shades for body and color? I don't want to overdo it.Also could you reccomend a custom color for me.I have been called a winter for skin and hair coloring. I have medium blue eyes, shoulder length hair( i'm not sure if golden blond is my best choice but I do need to nuetralize a occasional green cast. Malibu 2000 gel treatment helps. I don't mind strait hair but want more body. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also what perm would you reccomend to use with shades if I decide I still need a perm?thanks!

I would reccomend Using 'Shades Above' lightning crystals for a very gentle 1-2 level highlighting of your hair as you deem ness. Since your hair is 'fine' and you know as a stylist that fine hair does not want to perm usually near as well as 'normal' textured hair. I would do a small area underneath in the back with the Shades Above program and do a test curl with Redken Creative Curl perm or if you are brave the new Vector Plus Extra Body Formula. If you elect to do the Vector Plus please do the test curl first and the color 1 week later. The Vector Plus Perms are my favorite whether the 'original' or the newer 'Extra Body' formula for more defined curls. They are excellent! I have customers who have 'worn' the Vector Plus series of perms in excess of a year,(they really last well). I do not know about your facial features etc, but one of my favorite looks for hair of your length is the look that Kelly McGillis wore in the Tom Cruise movie "TOP GUN". With a lot of designers going toward the perm this year It is a good time to try something different. The Shades can be used easily every 5-6 weeks with no problems with proper conditioning/maintainence. The Shades is so wonderfully intermixable that you can formulate literally any color you desire easily. I might lean toward a cool color such as Vanilla Ice with a little touch of warming up. As for a style for straight fine hair it's hard to say without a picture, but the classic long pageboy/bob with the styled hair almost touching the shoulder top or a jaw length inverted bob with the back shorter with careful graduation is always a good one for controlling fine hair. I hope this helps. william
