My stepdaughter has been swimming a lot lately and she now has green strips of hair. My wife tried a molasses shampoo and prell but neither of them worked. Also, her hair is blonde. Any suggestions?

It sounds yucky but it works most of the time.Get some good ketchup like Heinz. Massage it through your stepdaughter's hair making sure to concentrate on the green parts. Wrap up in plastic wrap or a plastic shower cap and let it set for about 30 mintues. Less if it is too messy or smelly but 30 works great.Then rinse the ketchup out, shampoo with a mild moisturizing type of shampoo, do a final cold rinse and that will help.A professional hairstylist might choose to do a "flash bleach or color" to neutralize the green but I would not recommend that treatment for a child.To prevent further green hair....1. Have your stepdaughter always use a good leave in conditioner in her hair on days she swims. The conditioner will block the chemicals from "seeping into her hair"2. Have your stepdaughter pour (distilled is preferred) water on her hair BEFORE she gets into the pool. Chemicals are more easily absorbed into dry hair rather than wet.3. Have her immediately rinse her hair with distilled water the minute she gets out of the pool and the chemicals that are floating on her hair will be rinsed away before they have a chance to "settle" into the hair and turn it green.It is really best to use a swimming cap but not everyone wants to do that.If the ketchup cure does not work you can try it again or go to more drastic measures. Most beauty supply stores or Sally Beauty will sell a special brand of shampoo and conditioners for "swimming pool damaged hair".
