Are silicones that bad for your hair? I've been reading alot about the evils of silicones, and have been purchasing products without them. These product have petrolatum, mineral oil, and lanolin in them. Are these better?My daughter had beautiful almost waist-length hair that was color-treated and she used products with silicones the whole time with no problem.I realized that nothing works for everyone, but is silcone bad for everyone? I will say that when I use the silicone products my hair feels unnaturally slick and sort of plastic-coated. My hair combs slide out and barrettes don't hold. I want to grow my hair long (it is short now) and don't want to use products that will damage it. I know that silicones damage some people's hair.

Hi,You hit the nail on the head when you said....nothing works well for everyone......How silicones affect hair depends on the hair texture and health and also how often or how strong the "cones" are. There are also some "cone" derivatives that are not nearly as bad for your hair as others.Curly hair seems to have more problems...as a general rule...not for everyone....than other hair types. This is because of the structure of curly hair...which remains partialy open at all times because of the corkscrew shape.I have great luck with Aveda Curressence and ARTec Moisture Pak which has some "cones" but it makes my hair feel great and I don't have build up problems.I think everyone has to experiment and find the best product and combination of cone vs no cone for them.Best wishes,Karen> Are silicones that bad for your hair? I know that silicones damage some> people's hair.If you are having problems with keep clips in your hair, and your comb sliding through it too easily and it feel rough or even geasy, your using way too much. i personally find that ABBA's Mica, Sebastions Laminates, and Redkens Glass are the best. I havent used Aveda before, but there is a huge difference between brands. For instance Biolage's spray shine evaportes quickly and feels greasy to me. Regis brand you can smell the alchol and feel rough on my hair. I work at a Regis owned salon, so i get to play with alot of products. Like the other woman said, you have to find what works for you.
