I have natural dark blong hair. kind of like Ally McBeals' before she started lightening it a bit.My hair was much, much lighter blonde until the last few years(in my 30s now.). I used to have beautiful natural strips of highlights. Now the color is several shades darker, and quite boring. It always looks dirty to me.I want to a few small strips of not-so-obvious highlights, probably using a cap. My hair is short. After seeing my hair stylist's brassy blonde hair when she recently lightened it, I decided I'd rather risk doing mine at home(i love the way she cuts and styles, just don't want to risk the coloring with her.)I went to Sally Beauty Supply yesterday and got overloaded with products. I think Clairol Professional Line looks like it will work for me, but I don't know much about the Level 10-20-30-40 developers, the pure white versus clear developer, and those powders that you mix, etc.I guess I need a book or some good reference. I am willing to buy a $40 text book if that is what it takes.I really want to be able to do this at home, using the best products possible. I don't want to be one of those folks running to the salon to fix a major screw up. Heck, I'd be willing to take a course at a cosmetology school to learn the tricks. Any suggestions? Is there a book called 'Highlights for Dummies??!!'
