I have naturally neutral medium brown hair (it is exactly neutral..not too ashy not too golden) and I love having golden highlights in my hair.My problem is this. I just moved to Southern California, and got a new stylist, which always makes me nervous. Basically, my previous stylist in Seattle had not lightened my base color at all, but just highlighted my medium brown hair with golden blonde. My new colorist lightened my base color to a light brown, because he said there was too much contrast between the blonde highlights and my natural hair color. Well, that sounded fine, so he put on a mixture of light ash brown and dark ash blonde on my roots etc, and highlighted the rest with blonde. I love the highlights, but my roots are kinda orangish! You can't REALLy tell, but I sure can becuase my natural color is such a nice neutral and the lifted color is way too golden.I don't understand why it came out golden, because he put a mixture of ash colors on it. Do you think it came out bad because he mixed dark blonde with the light brown, and it lifted too much? Maybe I should ask him to just make the roots light brown ( with no dark blonde addes)? I kinda wish he didn't have to lighten my base color at all. I really like my natural color with highlights. How can I get that back?!
