I'm fairly new here to the board and was wondering what exactly are the problems with dimethicone/silicone. I just bought a bottle of Finesse conditioner and noticed on the ingredient list that it contained dimethicone. Is this bad?

Jennifer,I am not aware of any danger from the use of dimethicone. It is a light oil made from Silicone and non toxic to humans. It's used frequently in glossers, and pomades. It helps tame frizz, and create shine. The worst I can imagine is that it may weigh your hair down a bit, if your hair is fine.

Hi Jennifer,Dimethicone and other "cones" can build up on the hairshaft and cause it to be dry and brittle. I had this happen to me and others have said the same when using products that contain 'cones. Some people don't seem to have this problem, and others have noticed it two years into using these products. That's what how it went for me. I guess only time will tell if it's best for your hair to use silicone.Hope this helps you,Holly
