I realize that only regrowth should be touched to avoid damage to the rest of the hair, however, how often is it "safe" to refresh the color on the rest of the hair - i.e. every 2,6, 12 months? I have experienced alot of breakage due to previously "pulling through the color" every 4 weeks.

Susan,When I was dyeing my hair red, the stylist would apply the permanent color to the roots only for 35 minutes, then squish it through the rest of my hair to set for the last few minutes.Another solution I know of is to use permanent color on the roots only, followed by a semipermanent all over to boost color and shine on the hair shaft.Ally
