I've been noticing small white crusty patches on my scalp latley, when I scratch them off it's red underneath. Is this styling product build up or dandruff? How can I tell what the difference is? I don't want to use one of those harsh dandruff shampoos that wreck your hair. Should I put apple cider vinegar in my hair to get rid of the patches/flakes and clear my scalp? My hair is blonde, so I'm afraid apple cider vinegar would make it darker. How long would I leave the vinegar on for? Any other suggestions of anything that I could use would help. Thanks.

Hi,Without seeing you in person I can not guarantee that you have dandruff, but I would suspect from the description that you provide that you do have dandruff. There are several articles on Hair Boutique that talk about dandruff, how to diagnose it, how to treat it, what causes it...etc etc.I have included the Dandruff Faqs URL below. You can also look at: http://209.237.159.2/askkaren/askkaren%2D08%2D1999.htm - http://209.237.159.2/askkaren/askkaren%2D08%2D1999.htm (AskKaren - Last Resort Help For Dandruff) http://209.237.159.2/tips/tip136.htm - http://209.237.159.2/tips/tip136.htm - Healthy Scalp info. There are so many great treatments for dandruff that you no longer have to use harsh shampoos like days of old. In fact, many of the all natural products like Aubrey Organic make great products for dandruff. Nature's Gate also has a tea tree oil shampoo that works great on dandruff. You don't have to worry about doing lots of extreme things to your hair that will alter the color and don't worry about the vinegar at this point.I would like to recommend that you read the AskKaren - Last Resort article that I have included and the Dandruff Faqs. This should help answer a lot of your questions and concerns. Many people get dandruff at some point in their life and there are a variety of different opinions about why.Hope that helps.Best wishes,Karen Shelton> I've been noticing small white crusty patches on my> scalp latley, when I scratch them off it's red> underneath.
