I know I spelled this wrong and I know that I donot have a say so in this but here goes! Karen or Jeffery, Can you make it where the only people on here that can write on these boards are registered users? In other word if you are not registered then you donot get to write on here? That would cut down on the spam and the idiots that are "playing" games? Just a thought! How does anyone else feel about this? Debbie

I agree, the troublemakers and trolls like "Osama" never seem to be registered.

The only problem with that is, it'll discourage people coming just for a little advice, too. I know if I just wanna go to a board to ask one thing, and don't really intend to stay, having to register seems like too much hassle to go to.

Hi all,
I have talked to many about limiting posting to registered people only. Unfortunately the majority do not want a closed messageboard which means registered only. Not only does it tend to freak out some people, it greatly reduces new people and visitors from posting the first time.
Even more bad news. If we limit to registration only, it does not necessarily block people like Osama/TheRock etc from registering under a different name and then coming back in.
The ONLY way we can control the boards is if we do delayed posting. That means that someone has to review all posts before they are published. So either posts sit waiting for review when someone can review them or we have to hire someone 24 hours a day to preview posts. Not really an option at this point.
Although people now work at HB.com 7 days a week - 20 hours a day - I would have to pay someone overtime to read posts before they are published.
We do track all IP info, even from people that do not register. So in the case of Osama/Rock, we have a list of all the IP addresses he/she/it/they have come in under. We have tied the IP addresses to the ISPs as of this morning and we have made a formal request for User ID info from the ISPs via our attorney. So we will do our best to deal with people that want to deliberately destroy the HairTalk boards.
And trust me, I will do whatever is in my legal rights to prosecute anyone that is abusing these boards. I am totally fed up with all the BS on the web and am taking every action possible to protect our visitors and our site.
As far as any other options, I don't see a good one at the present that would be unobtrusive.
Thank you for the feedback. I do appreciate it very much.
Best wishes, Karen

I know that you and Jeff are working hard for these boards! And, I thank you for it! The "Rock" just ticked me off by saying what he did about Kids with cancer and Bald chicks being ugly. If I had him in front of me I would of laid the "smack down" on Him! (I need to get a life? LOL) Thank you though Karen and Jeff for all that you do! Oh and HAPPY SPRING!!!!!!!! Debbie
