Hi, all my life i've wanted dreads and have finally convinced my mum to let me try them out (she says i have to try the temporary ones first....yes i know what your thinking, i'm a 16 yr old mamma's girl....well so what) anyway, i went to the store picked up some super hold wax, the best i could find. and started to twist my hair my advice given was, wash hair with but don't condition...did it, then i applied a hell of a lotta wax, and then was told to blow dry, i tried it and my hair wouldn't hold it just had these crappy looking half twirls in them and was all sticky still from the wax... after a day of to of the occasional hourly twirl to try and make my hair turn to dreds i decided i'd wash all the wax out, as it was still sticky and gross. what have i done wrong or have missed, i live in australia and can't find any proper dread products in my country town.....argh!!! i wanna have dreads. please help

Hi Kribby...Sassi is right it can be done.
Be sure to use a water soluable wax product.
curly or wavy hair works best.
It can be a hard on your hair and you have to be patient when washing it out.
Start with a strand about diameter of a pencil or a little bigger. You have do it strand by strand...tease and apply the wax as you go...tease(small tooth comb works best) and wax...tease and wax.
I have to say it would be really hard to do yourself. I have seen Stylists take hours to do a head...even the temporary dreds.
anybody else have anything to add...?? Let us know how it goes. Cheers, Sophie.
