about 3 months ago I had my hair twist permed. I had it done before about 2 years ago and it came out really awesome. I had it done again at the same salon but a different stylist did it and it didn't turn out the way I had hoped.

Now 3 months later the perm is fading out and I want a new change. My hair is naturally straight, usually I would just shave it off and start over but I honestly don't like waiting for it to grow, especially when you get those ugly can't-do-anything-with-it periods.

I was wondering is there something I can do (at home or professionally) to get it back to normal, straight? Some of my friends were telling me to get it relaxed, but they also said it was really damaging and I know perms really damage your hair in general. So that sounds like a double whammy in terms of damage. Anything "safer"?

Doing anything at all is going to damage your hair. Chemical relaxing would definitely be the worst thing to do though. You may want to consider straightening irons until it grows out. They will damage your hair too, but if you keep a style shorter than mid back you should be okay using that until your permed hair grows out and gets cut off. See the "Straight talk" forum for discussions on different straightening irons.

well you cant really have it chemically straigten it without a few strands coming off but flat iron are the best choice for you. just used straigning lotion to help it straigt and do your hair treatment religiously every week to keep hair for drying out.
