I have a major problem! I am set to have pictures done tomorrow, and had a screw up in the bathroom. I purchased a highlighting kit that instead of highlighting turned my hair into an unnatural red.

I have purchased a color in my natural shade to correct it, but I have been hearing not to color over highlights.

Please help! What can I do?

Thanks!
Michelle

direct response - I have dyed over highlights before and it worked out ok; but you have to understand that I dyed my hair black. You have to be very careful about the dryness of your hair. Make sure to use some nourishment like a leave-in conditioner or oil treatment.

*rant* indirect response - go to a hair professional! It's been said so many times on this board that things like this will happen if you don't go to someone who knows what they are doing. and please go to a professional to fix it. You don't want to make the same mistake a second time and cause even more damage to your hair. *end rant*

If I were you I'd go to a salon... especially if these pictures are important. I had highlights that were just bleached (not finished with a light blonde color) and I dyed my hair over them. All I got was a nice blonde color that had subtle highlights. It's been quite a few months and colorings and my highlights are still in my hair. I'm not sure how that would work w/ red tho.... Salon unless you're very brave.

Since your hair has 'red' in it on the highlights, you cannot not just choose 'brown' for instance to cover it. You would need the the appropriate base shade to sure the end result you desire.

Got to a salon.
