I know that many of you will know the answer to this question...
When you buy a haircolor at the store it comes with the developer already inside it.
What if I was buying a haircolor at Sally's beauty supply? The have 20, 40-volume developer. Is the high number stronger or is the low number stronger? And what is in developer? If I was darkening my hair would I use a 20 or 40 or what??? I'm confused here!!!!
Thank you in advance!

40 is definately higher....I recommend using a Semi-permanent if you are going darker, thats around 5-8 volume. It's H2O2, Hydrogen Peroxide.
IMO, Unless you are covering grey or lightening hair your don't need 20 vol...or as much ammonia as is in a permanent. Cheers.
