Sunday night I'm planning on low-lighting my hair. My hair is pretty damaged from me personally dying it about 30 times in the past four years. The last time I did anything to it was about five weeks ago (I highlighted it) I have medium brown hair about shoulder length. I want to lowlight it. Should I bleach and then do the brown high lights or....?? Also does anyone have any special recommendations as to shampoos that will help replenish my hair? I've tried Pantene Pro-V, Charles Worthington, and Herbal Essences. Any specific hair masks any one likes?? Please if you're reading this REPLY! Even if its something negative as to tell me that I should just shave my head because I'm screwed! I can't go see a hair dresser so I'm doing this my self. So if you can give me any low-lighting tips, conditioning tips, ANYTHING I'd much appreciate it! ALL comments NEEDED before sunday night!! Thanks!

I really don't think you should do any more dyeing to your hair ESPECIALLY bleaching. just wait for it to grow out before you dye or bleach it agin. For now you should try getting it back into good condition. Try reading some reviews on shampoos, conditioners and treatments for color treated hair and try to find one you like. get your hair into better condition and wait for it to grow out before you dye it again.

You should definetly deep condition your hair before you do anything else to it. A good conditioner to use is Ion's Repair Solutions Effective Care Treatment.

I agree with peachy. If you color again, you may find yourself with a total disaster. If you really feel you must do "something", put your effort into conditioners and replenishing masks.

Aussie 3-Minute Miracle is a terrific deep conditioner. Infusium is another very good drug store brand. You should avoid the following chemicals in your shampoos:

sodium lauryl sulfate
ammonium lauryl sulfate
anthing that has the word "ammonium" in it!

Sodium LAURYL sulfate is ok.

These chemicals are very very drying. Most shampoos in the drugstore have them so you will have to do some reading and hunting to find a good one. Just the words "replenishing" or "moisturizing" are not enough. You have to read the labels.

So instead of coloring, go out and get busy with gentle shampoos and conditioning. You will thank yourself.

Please let us know how things go.

Hey guys well I did it and it turned out surprisingly well. We bleached it for about 35 minutes (i was sooo impatient) and then the next day we did the brown. I LOVE it. It needed a little fixing due to spots underneath but after that it looked GREAT. And I used Fructis 3 Minute Masque and my hair is so soft and it looks a lot less frizzy. I'm really happy with the results, even with as nervous as I was

Amber,

I am so glad to hear it worked out. Keep up the conditioning. Doesn't that Fructis stuff smell gorgeous? I was seduced by the smell last week, and bought a jar.

next time u decide to lowlight use a semi permenent color, no chemical in it and it will probly hold longer if your hair is previously colored

I think there's a typo - I think she meant to say that Sodium LAURETH sulfate is ok. Just trying to help!

Why didn't you go to a salon? You're lucky it turned out looking good. I would never to that. I'm going to the salon to get some lowlights.
