OK, so I decided to save money and start getting blonde by dying my hair all over and not doing foils. At first I was happy but I have noticed now that on the part of my hair that was never highlighted, it looks more red than blonde, especially in strong light. I went to the salon and they tried an ashy toner and now I have brownish, reddish hair. So they said, "OK, you need highlights." Now I ask you, why is that? Is the only way to get blonde expensive foils? I don't want to be platinum but I don't want red or brown either. Demo... girl, your in the corrective zone now. It's really tough to get a gorgous med blond/ all over color, especially if you have some natural dark hair, some lowlights, new growth with some gray....just guessing there, could be wrong, forgive me.....some high lifted or bleached highlights. Put it all together and you've got 2, 3, 4, or 5 different colors of hair and you've got to make it all come out pretty and natural. Not to mention.....depending on your length...the differances between base hair, mid shaft and ends. I don't have any good ideas for you, It would be hard for me to get you where you could handle it at home. Highlights, are likely the most inexpensive route your Salon could offer aside from toning...???? and it sounds like they had to use some pigment to get the red toned. ?? sorry, not very encouraging....I don't know.  ------------- Sophie http://salonwest.proboards34.com - http://salonwest.proboards34.com |

Well, you are right about the multi-color but my hair is pretty short. I don't want to do any of this myself--I am a salon advocate and all of this was done by a pro. But, I am disappointed that I have to go back to highlights. I didn't want the expense. Sounds like that is all there is though. If you don't like it, you shouldn't have to pay for it to be repaired. If they try to charge you, I would report them to the better business bereau. ------------- I am a professional Hairstylist/Haircolorist with 19 years experience. Hey Demodoll, Sorry to hear about your experience. A similar thing happened to me. I tried to cover up my highlights with brown dye and ended up getting red on the unhighlighted portion of my hair. Did you use permanent dye? I bet the reason why your hair turned red is because of the ammonia and peroxide in the dye lifted your natural color, thus creating the red tones. The ash is supposed to correct the red tones, but it will leave your hair darker than what you intended it to be. Highlights would be a good option for now until everything grows out and gets "settled." (And less damaging than all over color.) HTH somewhat. :) |
