Hi, my friend and I have agreed this weekend to dye each other's hair. I am really afraid about her doing mine, but I think I am more scared of messing up hers. I thought maybe someone who has had experience doing it can give me some tips. My friend has dirty blonde hair that is about ear lobe length and curly, she wants it dyed all blonde with Herbal Essences. We bought the hair coloring yesterday and some brushes to apply it. I on the other hand have blondish hair that is a bob with an undercut and I want to dye it a platinum for the summer. Please give me some advice on how to color my friends hair, I have heard so many horror stories and I do not want to have one. Thanks again

If you guys are starting out pretty light you should end up ok, I think. You should call the 800 # and ask them for advice, I think that's the best advice.
Also, it's a good idea to do an intensive conditioning treatment before coloring.
Please come back here and let us know how it goes, ok?

I agree with Elissa - since you are both blonde (or blondish) to begin with, you should be okay. Also, I strongly suggest doing a strand test first. At home haircolor instructions always suggest doing a strand test but I think most people don't bother with this step. IMHO this is the most important step and can save you heartache in case the color doesn't turn out like you hoped. I've made many haircolor blunders before when I didn't do a strand test. Finally I got wise and started doing them.
Also, if your hair or your friend's hair has any hint of red to it, you want to use a haircolor that has the word ash in it like "Ash blonde" or "dark ash blonde". This will tone down any natural red tendencies that you might have and keep your haircolor from coming out orange.
I'm not a hairstylist or professional. I just like to think I've learned from my mistakes and want to help keep anyone else from making the same mistakes I've made.
Good luck. Caramia

They tell you how to do the strand test in the instructions. You might want to go to clairol.com for some coloring tips.
