| I am a naturall brunette !I died my hair blonde at home for 3 years and i overdied and had to have my hair corrective colored about a month ago !They made it a dark red and i wanted to find out if there is any way for me to go back to blonde! I have been buying the expensive corrective shampoo and i make sure to fallow all the guidlines to take care of my hair!I was thinking maybe just an assortment of three diffrent blonde highlights all over or a darker blonde with light blonde highlights!ALL AT A SALON OF COURSE~let me know what you think and give me some suggestions : ) |

I would talk to a reputable salon stylist about this, but it certainly sounds as if you've processed your hair to such an extent that I personally wouldn't die it, and especially wouldn't highlight it again. You said:
1) You first overdied it (do you mean you colored over color?). 2) Then came the corrective color -- a dark red at the salon. 3) You want to get it back to to a darker blonde color at the salon, with various blonde highlights. I would have to say for me, #1 is where I would have stopped, this is because my hair is fine. Thicker hair I imagine can handle more color services, but you have to take into account all of the color treatments your hair has already endured, and that you really can't 'repair' your hair once it's been damaged (although you can smooth the cuticle with some haircare products). How is the texture, health, etc. of your hair now? Also, highlighting is even more damaging, and highlighting over color (especially hair that has been colored more than one time) can REALLY create problematic hair. I would seriously consider waiting until your hair grows out before contemplating anymore coloring or chemical services of any kind, but that's just my opinion. Also, if you're considering going over a 30 volume developer, this will just wreak more havoc on your hair. I remember telling one stylist not to go over a 20 volume developer, and she went to 40 and my hair was breaking off for 2 weeks straight. It took over a year to get my hair even to the point of looking normal again. Just looking at how much you've done to your hair already, I would use a semi-permanent color (10 volume) at the very most, and wait until your hair grows out before using any harsher chemicals. I did overdye it~tried to put a darker color over the blonde~ I was going to wait until mid january to redo it.I was told that if i maybe went a light brown with lowlights only framing my face or on the top layer of my hair it wouldn't hurt my hair as much and that it would give a blonde effect! ehhh....this is tricky. The problem is, that you won't know you *have* a problem until it's already been done. Overprocessed hair is something that shouldn't be messed with. I did the bleach thing and went to a medium auburn for about six months, and not only was the upkeep horrible, but my hair was in *aweful* shape, and it just looked bad. I finally, recently, found a shade a little closer to my natural color and put some very subtle highlighting into it to still keep an element of light in it, and i've never been happier. Actually, If I were you, I would suggest going to your natural color for a year, trimming the split ends every two months. *points* Yeah, I'd have to agree, letting the old stuff grow out first before putting something else in is a good idea. If you torture you hair too much, it'll not only get dry and really damaged, but it won't take dye as well anymore, either. And, as a rule, I'd say people who keep short hair should be able to dye more with less ill result than people with long hair, because the damaged bits get cut off more regularly with short hair. If it's longer, the same parts can accumulate more damage from chemicals, heat styling, sun, chlorine, etc. So I'd think people with longer hair would have to be even more careful about damage and stuff.
