How does it work? I been thinking about removing my hair colour. It is reddish brown right now. My original hair colour was black. I want to go dark brown. I tried to colour over it but the colour doestn stick to the hair. After a week the colur would fade. So i am planning to remove the hair dye in the hair before proceding to colour it again.

The only hair color remover I have had experience with is Uncolor by Clairol. It worked very well and relatively quickly. Here is a description of the product:

Lyris can probably tell you more about the individual ingredients.
A cool website for hair color is:
http://www.haircoloradvisor.com/ - http://www.haircoloradvisor.com/
They have a message board and you can submit questions to their color experts. Someone has submitted a question similar to yours and you can read their answer here:

Good luck and I hope you find the answer you are looking for.

If you plan on just dyeing to a darker color then you don't need to strip out your current color unless you plan on going lighter than where you are. Color remover/stripper's function is to remove either permanent or semi-perm. colors before you re-color in same level or similar toned tint or to go lighter. If you want to go darker then there's no need for this. I suggest you to try a filler to absorb the color and to prevent fading. Also, not to shampoo everyday but at least 3 times a week plus cool water and use color treated hair conditioner. It helps preserve the color.
