I apologize for my response, I didn't see that you stated that your hair color turned out too dark.
I would recommend a temporary, lighter color for the time being if you REALLY want to do this at home. I would hightly recommend a salon, otherwise to help you achieve the results you are looking for.
Also, I've noticed there are so many incredibly beautiful dark colors that have shades of other colors in them, and that might be an option (but also might be more expensive). I just love the gold/dark brown/auburn colored mixture. If I were to go dark, I would probably pick this, but that's just my own preference.
Natural Instincts makes a temporary hair color you can use to lighten your hair very subtly. (but if in doubt, please consult a stylist).

You already know what I'm going to say. This is a correction....SALON....scratch that!....GOOD SALON WITH A COLOR SPECIALIST.
That being said, there is a color rule that you want to be aware of..."Color DOES NOT lift color." This is very important, don't mess your hair up more by trying to put more pigment, ammonia and peroxide on it.
There are color removers, but they are not easy to use.
Sorry for not offering more help, but this is truly a job for a colorist, please try to find one in your area. Good Luck

hi if I were you i woudl mix a bit of bleach and peroxide with soem shampoo and lather it on your hair and within a few minutes it should lighten just watch the hair closely, until a lighter shade is obtained, if you want to leave it on till it gets much lighter and then apply a lighter brown shade either are godo techniques good luck
